What’s Holding You Back!

Reaching for new goals is scary!  If you don’t reach though, you’re going to stay stuck.  Is that really okay for you?  Probably not but some people subconsciously keep themselves stuck because they’re too afraid to take a leap.

Here are 5 things that might be holding you back and what you can do about it.
  1. Fear of failure.

The fear of failure can be paralyzing if you let it be.  Failure is always a possibility but you can’t let that hold you back.  If you let it hold you back you’ve failed without even trying.

What to do: Look at failure in a different light.  See it as a valuable learning tool that you can use to help you achieve success.  Failing at something just lets you know what not to do.  If you fail, change what you’re doing.  If you fail again keep changing what you’re doing until you figure it out.  You also need to be open to the fact that the final outcome may not be exactly what you thought it was going to be and that’s okay.  In most cases it’s better.

  1. Listening to other people’s opinions.

When you set out to do something that could be difficult those who love you may point out all the reasons why you shouldn’t do it.  Most likely they have your best interest in mind but in trying to protect you they may be holding you back.  No one knows what you are capable of except you – and sometimes you don’t even know.  If your goal is important enough to you, you’ll figure it out and you will be successful.

What to do: Listen to what people are telling you but remind yourself that they are not you.  Most likely their fears for you stem from their own insecurities.  If your goal is important enough and you have a plan go for it.  Don’t let other’s fears dictate how you live your life.

  1. Self-doubt.

This is a tough one.  I think we all experience self-doubt which is actually a good thing because it forces us to think about all possible outcomes.  Where it becomes bad is if you let your self-doubt stop you from trying.

What to do: Change your self-talk.  If that voice in your head is telling you that you can’t do something stop listening to it and start telling yourself that you can in fact do it if you follow the steps.  Instead of looking at the final outcome of your goal (which can be a bit overwhelming) look at the steps to get you there.  Figure out the step you need to take right now to get you closer.  Once you’re successful at taking even the tiniest step your self confidence will increase and you’ll have the courage to take the next step.

  1. Fear of change.

Change is uncomfortable.  It’s so much more comfortable and safe feeling to keep doing what you’re familiar with.  This is even true when you’re not totally happy with what you’re doing.  You may not be happy but you’re very comfortable with the procedure and that’s what keeps you stuck.

What to do: Look at change differently.  In order to better your situation things need to change.  At first it will feel foreign and uncomfortable and you’ll probably ask yourself why you’re even trying.  All you need to do is push through that and pretty soon the change you’ve made will become a part of your life that you’re comfortable with.  Nothing great happens in the comfort zone.  You need to reach and grow if you want true fulfillment.

  1. Your perception of your current situation.

What you tell yourself will become your reality.  If you tell yourself that you don’t have enough money to start a business then that will be your reality.  If you tell yourself that you can’t get into shape because you’re too busy then you’ll never achieve your fitness goals.

What to do: Instead of telling yourself that you’re stuck in your situation try telling yourself that you can and will figure out how to change it.  If you don’t have the money to start your business tell yourself that there are resources out there and you’re going to find them.  If you feel like you’re too busy to get in shape tell yourself that you’ll figure out how to fit in some exercise and you’ll learn how to eat properly.  Keep telling yourself that you can achieve what you want and you’ll believe it so deeply that you’ll automatically start taking steps that are going to get you to your goal.  Your mind is SO powerful – you just need to use it properly.

Go Get Em’ Tiger!

Really the only thing holding you back from all that you want out of life is you.  Change your thinking and change your life.  Is it going to be tough?  Hell ya!  Is it going to be worth it?  YES!  Decide right now if where you’re at in your life is good enough for you.  If the answer is no, get off your butt and make things happen for yourself.  No one will do it for you 😉

Why You Aren’t Achieving Your Goals

Do you find yourself constantly falling just short of your goals?  You’re not alone!  Let’s talk about some of the reasons why you aren’t achieving your goals and what you can do about it!

Reasons Why You’re Not Achieving Your Goals

  1. Not having clear goals.

You need to have clear goals!  How will you ever know if you’ve reached a goal if you don’t have clear ones?  For instance ‘I wanna lose weight’ is NOT clear so you need to make your goals SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely.

  1. Not having a plan.

Okay!  You’ve set your clear goals!  Now how are you going to get there?  You can’t just fly by the seat of your pants.  You need to have a plan to follow so you don’t end up wasting time, or worse yet giving up all together.  If you’re not sure what to do talk to someone who can help you and get the plan that will lead you to success.  Investing a bit of money in a profession is worth it if your goal is important enough to you so don’t be shy about asking for guidance.

  1. Not taking responsibility.

Once you’ve set your goals it’s entirely up to you to go after them because no one can do the work for you.  People can help and guide you, but in the end YOU have to do the WORK.  Make the decision to do the work no matter what so you can change your life!

  1. Listening to negative people.

Something funny happens to some people when they see their friends or loved ones making positive changes in their lives.  They actually feel a bit threatened and maybe a bit jealous so they will say things to discourage you.  You need to be strong enough to shut out the negative talk and stay focused on the big picture.  Focus on what’s best for you and don’t worry about how others feel about it.  You may even inspire some of your naysayers to improve their own lives so stick to your path and know that you may be helping someone 😉

  1. Not believing in yourself.

Your mind is more powerful than you can even imagine and here’s the thing.  Whatever you believe, becomes your reality so if you believe you’ll fail, you will.  Think your life sucks and you’re stuck?  Then it does and you are.  If you believe that you will stop at nothing to reach your goal and that you will be successful, then you will be!  This isn’t to say you just have to believe it and it’ll magically happen.  You have to believe you’ll be successful no matter what and this means you won’t give up when it gets tough and you won’t let yourself doubt your abilities even when things don’t seem to be going your way.  You’ll stay true to what you want in life and you’ll do the battle you need to do to get there.  If your goal is important enough, the battle will be worth it and victory will be yours.

What Are You Waiting For?

Go do it!  Write out your goal and 3 reasons why it’s so important to you.  Set up your plan (get help if you need it) and go get what you want out of life!

Why You Haven’t Achieved Your Goals Yet

How many times have you felt frustrated that you haven’t achieved your goals yet?  Don’t worry, you’re not alone!  Many people set goals that are totally achievable only to come up short.  There are reasons for this and I’m going to share that with you.

Lacking a plan

Many people have an idea of what they want, but not many take the time to write it down and then make a plan.  You need to know specifically what you want to achieve and write that down.  Then you need to come up with a game plan to reach that goal.  Break it down into steps and write the steps down so you’re clear on what you have to do.

Lacking focus

Once you’re clear on your specific goal and you have a plan, you have to focus.  Losing focus will guarantee failure.  To reach any goal you need to consistently work towards it every day.

Lacking a strong ‘why’

It’s fine to have a goal, but if you don’t have a strong why attached to it you’re going to give up when things get tough.  You need a very strong why that resonates so deeply with you that giving up is not an option.  Your why needs to be very personal with you and you need to be able to tie yourself emotionally to it.

Fear of failure

You have to believe in yourself and that no matter what, you’re going to reach your goal.  So many people decide to not even try because they think they’ll fail and their fear of failure paralyzes them.  Guess what?  By deciding you’re too scared of failure to even try, you’ve just failed.  Think about that – you’ve failed without even having tried.  Don’t fear failure!  You need failure so you can learn what not to do.  All you have to do is decide to go for your goal no matter what.  If you accept some failure along the way you’ll end up successful.  You only fail when you quit.

Not knowing how to get to where you want to be

No one should expect to know everything they need to know to achieve their goals.  That’s what the experts are for.  If it’s a health and fitness goal invest in help from a coach so you’re guaranteed to be put on the right path.  If it’s a business goal, hire a business coach.  There are experts out there that can help you achieve whatever goal it is you have.

Not enough money

So many people believe that they can’t achieve their goals because they don’t have the money.  Think of things you do spend your money on and why you spend that money.  You spend it because the thing you’re spending it on is important enough to you that you find the money for it.  If something is important enough to you, you’ll figure out how to be able to afford it.

Lack of support

I truly believe that the number one reason why people fail to reach their goals is a lack of support.  There is strength in numbers!  Even if the people around you aren’t supportive you can find support by seeking out a group of like-minded people.  This could be people at the gym, or an online support group, or a convention that you attend regularly.  There are many forms of support out there and isn’t it worth it to seek them out so you can achieve your goals?
